Beschreibung

Built by Bruckmann Yachts this sensibly proportioned custom downeast styled power cruiser was designed by Mark Ellis, a leading naval architect, and built by one of the most highly regarded builders in the industry.

Her sensible proportions make her and easily handled boat as evidenced by the fact that her "senior owner has cruised her south twice inlcuding a winter in the Bahamas, from New England!  Her single Man diesel provides cruising speeds to 14 knots and the bow thruster and large rudder make handling her around a slip a breeze.

Vessel Walk Thru

This custom Bruckmann 44 is laid out to accommodate 4 in a galley down single stateroom layout.  Her interior is bright and airy finished in a “Herreshoff Style” with varnished Mahogany trim on white flat panels with a varnished teak and holly sole.  There is an abundance of natural light and ventilation with 6 stainless steel ports and 2 large and 2 small hatches as well as 2 Dorades, all of which have screens and the hatches have blinds as well.  The salon/wheelhouse is surrounded in glass and has 2 side and one centerline rear door.  When natural light and ventilation are not enough the yacht is fitted with 32,000 BTUs of reverse cycle air conditioning (heats and cools).  When only heat is required the yacht is fitted with an Espar diesel cabin heat system.

starting forward is the Owner’s Stateroom featuring an island queen berth with top access storage below.  Above and outboard are under deck storage units and aft and to port is a settee with storage outboard and the  bureau with drawers aft.  To starboard and aft is a large hanging locker.

Conintuing aft and to starboard is the enclosed head with generous stall shower compartmen.  The head is fitted with a Vacu flush WC and thwart ship vanity with sink and p,entry of storage   The shower area is generous, fitted with a seat and drains to a separate sump.

Furthest aft and to starboard is a desk and storage area.  The aft facing desk has a bookshelf above and storage in lockers outboard.  The largest of these had housed a washer dryer which has been removed in favor of extensive shelving.  The owner has saved the washer dryer should others wish to convert back.

Opposite is the U-shaped galley with Corian counter tops, double basin polished stainless steel sink and storage in a number of lockers and drawers.  Chilled food stuffs are easily managed in a large front and top load refrigeration unit and top load freezer unit while cooking is done from a Force 10 2 burner propane stove with oven.

up 4 steps to the wheelhouse and salon.  The helm station is to starboard with fold down seat and full vessel and electrical controls.  A companion seat is to port forward of which is a small stand up nav desk that also houses the pop up TV on an Inca electric lift.  Port and Starboard side doors make egress to side decks for docking etc. convenient and easy.

Aft of the helm area is the Salon with shorter straight settee to starboard with storage under as well as in a cabinet aft.  Originally a stereo system cabinet that has been made available for other items.  Opposite to port is a large curved settee that is almost 7-10” along the inboard edge and will comfortably sleep two when made down as the table is on a high low post and acts as a filler.  Again there is storage below as well as in a backlit glass cabinet at the aft port corner.

the just off center door provides access to the cockpit featuring 3 double seats with storage and propane locker below.  Additional storage in lazarettes P and S as well as in a swim platform lazarette.

Wide side decks with low bulwarks aft with teak cap rail and stainless steel safety rails with gates P & S provide easy access forward.  Additional storage locker at the bow.

The gently sloped ladder provides easy access to the flying bridge which is fitted with a bench seat aft and to port and 2 Todd helm chairs new in 2019

Mechanical

A single 600 HP fresh water cooled MAN diesel provides cruise speeds to 14 kt turning a 30X31 Nibral 4 bladed propeller in a 2.5" shaft through a ZF V-drive transmission.  The engine, currently showing 1272 hours had full 1,000 hour service in 2020.

The yacht was originally built with  Hundested hydraulic drive turning a contorllable pitch propeller.  As planned by the current owner when he pruchased the boat this was removed and a re-work of the drive train was accomplished which also removed about 5-600 pounds of weight from the boat.

The owner reports that she will run at 11 knots in displacement mode burning app 13 GPH which is where most of his operating experience is.  She is on plane at about 12.5 kt and his recollection is that at 2000 rpm and 80% load she runs at over 14 knots.

Construction Hull and Deck

Fiberglass with end grain balsa coring and in the bottom structure hull, house, and deck.  The hull finished with a custom tint Imron essentially Forest Green, with white boot stripe.  The bottom is finished with Micron CSC in a lighter green.

Balsa cored house and decks with White gel-coat with Awlgrip Moondust where there is a painted non-skid surface and on the side and cockpit decks a sealed synthetic cork simulated teak overlay.

Those familiar with the Bruckmann/Ellis/Legacy Yachts relationship recognize that this is an extended model of the well known Legacy 42.  Legacy molded the hull and deck and shipped it to Mark Bruckmann in Ontario, Canada who did all of the systems and interior as well any of the exterior finishes that were not gelcoat.  In addition, per the original owners specification the hull was extended by incorporating a 2' molded in swim platform.  After spending the first twelve years of her life following a spring 2006 commissioning on the Great Lakes she headed to New England and then on two winter cruises in 2018/19 to the Bahamas and then the wither of 20/21 to Florida having spent the winter of 19/20 hauled and stored in Maine.
