The 56 was the first Oyster design to be drawn for us by Rob Humphreys, beginning a partnership that continues to this day. The 56 is perhaps the quintessential Oyster design and was the undisputed class leader at this size for more than a decade. Rob certainly got it right first time – the 56 is our bestselling model, with seventy-five launched between 1998 and 2010.
The key to her success is her size; large enough for rapid ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew in comfort and style when living aboard, but also compact enough to be handled by a couple or family without professional crew.
The 56 retained earlier successful Oyster design features; the single skin hull construction with stiffness provided by massive ribs and stringers, the keel stepped mast, and the full-length rudder skeg, which protects the entire rudder. The 56 was also the first yacht to gain from an ergonomically designed cockpit. Oyster worked with Loughborough University to design a space which makes relaxing and entertaining a true pleasure, whilst maintaining all the essential qualities you would expect of a serious ocean-going yacht.
The 56 is a proven performer, with many ocean crossing and circumnavigations to her credit. She has had class wins in the ARC and has also won Cruising Class 1 at Antigua Sailing Week, beating a number of more serious racing yachts. She is a superb sea boat and remains very well regarded by all her fortunate owners.
Oyster Bay is a 2007 example, and sought after late model G5 style, with the sweeping and attractive deck profile that characterised all subsequent Oyster designs. She is in her second ownership, and has never been chartered. Her rig was specified for maximum ease of use, with electric furling to her mainsail and genoa, allowing push button sail handling from the security of the cockpit. Below decks she has the versatile four cabin layout, offering eight berths and her hand finished joinery is in crown cut teak.
Oyster Bay is located in Turkey, one of the finest cruising grounds in the Mediterranean, and can now be sailed in EU waters by UK residents without incurring a VAT liability. Early viewing recommended.

Access to the saloon from the companionway is via a set of shaped timber and stainless steel steps. Two timber grab handles are fitted either side of the companionway opening.
The saloon is extremely light and airy with seven windows, of which two of the three forward ones open. There are two opening hull portholes.
Featuring a circular opening table (revarnished 2016) and settee area to port, outboard of which is a pair of lockers and a central shelf to the hullport. Settee to starboard.
The saloon table is designed to form in its closed position, an occasional table, which is mounted on very substantial pedestal incorporating doors fore and aft that open to reveal angled shelves for bottle stowage in its base.
Teak veneered tabletop with solid timber edging that opens to form an oval dining table. Special provision is provided for two folding director’s chairs, to be stowed under the saloon settee. These provide extra in-harbour seating at the table, or even on deck.
