Custom C42 Tiger

Designed by the legendary Italian naval architect Paolo Caliari, the Technomarine C42 "Tiger" was produced from 1973 to 1986 and became his best‑selling design. PowerYacht Magazine notes that the model “started production in 1973 and lasted till 1986 and sold over one hundred units” — a modest run by global yacht‑manufacturing standards.

These performance cruisers were primarily sold in Europe; only a handful made it to the United States, and “Vaporwave” is one of the few (if last surviving) examples this side of the Atlantic. If you want a head‑turning express cruiser that combines Italian engineering with timeless lines, this boat is for you.

At 42' Length Overall (LOA) and with twin Detroit Diesel 6V-92s each pumping out 425HP, you'll be slicing through the bay water like James Bond.

Enter the cockpit through a gate off the swim platform; the cockpit features an upholstered bench and a captain’s chair with a full array of gauges. Five newly-carpeted steps take you into the main salon, where the port side offers a galley with a two‑burner Miele electric stove, stainless‑steel sink and refrigerator; a sofa/settee; and an enclosed head with shower.

On the starboard side you’ll find the main electrical panel, a white upholstered sofa that converts to a berth, another sink and lockers, and the entrance to the forward master stateroom.

The stateroom holds a queen berth, while both salon settees convert to additional berths. Multiple hatches and portlights provide ventilation, and an escape hatch sits over the forward cabin.

Since acquiring the vessel, the owners have undertaken significant upgrades to make Vaporwave stand out:

-New interior carpet in the salon and restored tile.

-Fresh bottom paint and zincs (2024), with the hull maintained in excellent condition.

-55″ smart TV installed in the salon for entertainment during anchorages.

-Packing glands repacked and shafts inspected; drives run smooth and leak‑free.

-Rudder repaired and steering system serviced.

-Additional improvements include routine engine service, cleaned heat exchangers, and minor electrical tidying; the surveys already list new batteries and a Victron charger.

Both a mechanical and hull survey have been completed in the last two years and are available by request (note these surveys pre-date upgrades).

It is exceedingly rare for a Technomarine C42 to come on the market. The most recent sale was brokered in the UK for GBP 69,950.00 ($94,038.00 USD) back in 2016.

Vaporwave is more than just a 1980s express cruiser—it’s a collectible example of Paolo Caliari’s timeless design that will turn heads wherever she goes.
